Making a Career Change

The vast majority of our Belvoir franchisees have made a career change in buying a property franchise. The fact that we provide an intensive three week training course when new franchisees start means that previous experience in the property industry is not necessary. This opens the door to people from all walks of life, all looking to change direction and start taking control of their own future.

Some of the careers our current franchisees have come to us from include; retail, corporate middle management, the military, accountancy and ownership of other small businesses.

The most important things we look for in a new franchisee is ambition and drive and an understanding that excellent customer service is the key to your businesses success.

I spent nearly 30 years commissioned service in the Royal Engineers specialising in combat engineering and human resources. I left as a Lieutenant Colonel at the age of 48 as I was getting bored and wanted stability. I found that my CV brought me back to the same job I was leaving only without the uniform or the pay, so I decided on a different course of action. I needed something which would motivate me, where I would be my own boss and with the potential of earning at least as much as I had been doing in the Army; the answer was to run my own business. It’s a big step to change careers at nearly 50, so I also decided to reduce my risk with a franchise that gave me that extra support. I was impressed with what Belvoir had to offer but more importantly for me they replicated my ethics, so I made that step and have not looked back. It has been a very positive experience in which all my goals have been satisfied.

My last role was as a regional manager for Trend Controls running a team of supervisors / service engineers for building energy management systems. I knew I had the ability to have a go starting up on my own so I started to take a look at my options when I was sent an email with a link to Belvoir! It’s been a struggle but if you were successful in your last roles and you work hard you will be rewarded. I now have 3 staff and doubled the size of my business with a major acquisition that would not of been possible without the support of the Belvoir infrastructure.
