The Rise of The Young Franchisee

Andy Smith and Martin Bunney of Belvoir Franchise Recruitment recently sat down together to discuss the rise of the under-30 franchisee. We’ve seen many young franchise owners join the Belvoir network over recent years and it’s a trend that is becoming increasingly popular, with a recent survey from the BFA and Natwest revealing that 1 in 5 franchisees is now below the age of 30.

Martin believes that very few young people come out of college or university and feel fully equipped to take on a business, in fact they are being told that they need to go out and gain more experiences before even deciding to take on a business, however in franchising there’s a difference.

‘In franchising we give them a track to run on’ says Martin, franchising offers enthusiastic entrepreneurial people no matter their age the training and support that they need to get their business off the ground, along with all the mentoring required to help to make the business a success. This offers young people the confidence that they need to go in to business.

Andy and Martin both agree that young people should be encouraged to go in to business rather than put it off until they’re ‘older and wiser’ – the franchise route is the perfect route for a young entrepreneur to take which will nurture their enthusiasm and help to direct this into growing a successful business.
