Rightmove, Zoopla and On the Market are all winning!

The property market is a very interesting place for all sorts of different reasons, one of which is the ongoing struggle between the now three main property portals.

On the Market is about to release a statement that it has reached the 5m visits a month level and created a Sea Change in the property market by breaking the duopoly of Rightmove and Zoopla.

Interesting when you consider the statistics released by Rightmove and Zoopla. 

Rightmove are recording increased profit figures and celebrated 100m visits in January.

Zoopla have accepted that they have lost some agent’s business but again are reporting a higher profitability.  They are also reporting higher visits to the site at over 44m on average per month.

This reminds me of a poker night I interrupted recently that one of my friends was hosting.  I asked how everyone was doing and of course everyone reported being up on the night! 

There are always statistics in our marketplace that are constantly open to interpretation from one source to another.

When the poor old landlord is looking to let his property out for instance, how does he separate one agent from another?  By asking if they are any good and inviting their spin on the statistics or various charges in this example?

It is anything but simple.  Use the headline rate and you could get bitten by numerous secondary and previously hidden charges!

When someone approaches me and asks about becoming a Belvoir Franchise Owner, how do I distinguish my offering from others?  I simply provide a complete list of every single one of our Franchise Owners and ask them to call whoever they wish.  I don’t doctor or restrict the list in any way, I let them call any or all of them. 

In other words I rely on the network being happy enough with the service we provide to be supportive and positive.  In all cases to date, I am delighted to say, they have been just that.

The message here is although this remarkable industry can be open to interpretation you have a resource open to you; you!  Referrals are a very powerful tool and asking other landlords for their experiences is a good way of looking before you leap.
