A new year offers a wide, open vista of possibilities!
We hear of some New Year's resolutions that are history by mid-January, but the New Year does signal a great time of change and it can often kick-start people into taking a big step and a different approach to life.
"Cheers to a New Year and another chance for us to get it right". ~ Oprah Winfrey
Perhaps you've been "existing" in a corporate life and working hard to assist someone else in achieving their dream?
Maybe you've realised that you're working too long hours and not seeing enough of your children growing up?
You may feel unfulfilled and unmotivated by exchanging your time for money a.k.a. "a job".
If January 2016 mirrors previous years, it will be the busiest month in the calendar for people starting their own business! Returning from the Christmas break to an unfulfilling job is often the final straw for someone to decide to become their own boss.
Will you be one of them?
Of course, leaving the security of a 9 to 5 job takes a lot of courage as you are exchanging certainty for uncertainty.
That is why many people choose the franchise route!
Franchising is worth a record £15bn to the UK economy, after a 14% surge in the number of outlets owned by franchisees in the past two years.
According to the latest in-depth report from the British Franchise Association (BFA), there are now 44,000 franchisee-owned units in the U.K., run by 901 central companies,
The BFA also say that banks are far more likely to fund a franchise than a stand-alone business, as franchises have a far greater success rate. Approximately 90% of franchises are profitable after 2 years, compared to only 20% of stand-alone businesses.
See - 5 reasons to start a franchise rather than going it alone
Here at Belvoir, our franchisees come from all walks of life and many disparate backgrounds. However, they all share one common denominator - the desire, drive, and commitment to become their own boss and build a successful business.
They have all had to transition from the "corporate" mindset to the mindset of a business owner/entreprenueur - the person who carries the risk of the business.
That is one definition of an entrepreneur.
However, we also love this definition of what an entrepreneur is. It's by Chris Oakley OBE, Chairman of web design company, Chapter Eight:
"Entreperneurs have unquenchable self-belief that opportunity can be made real through hard work, commitment and the adaptability to learn the lessons of the market along the way.
"They are prepared not just to work seriously hard but to back their judgment with personal investment at a level which will cause problems if they are wrong about the opportunity. They understand that achievements are the result of team work and know how to choose the necessary blend of talents and inspire them with their vision."
Again, the franchise route is often seen as "lower risk" because you are in business for yourself, but not by yourself.
At Belvoir, the team is already assembled! There is award-winning and unrivalled training and support to ensure you achieve success. We have over 130 other successful franchisees around the country that you can learn from. Our network is supportive and collaborative and our franchise model has a 20 year track record of success.
Belvoir is a "High Street" name and trusted brand that you can leverage to give yourself the best possible chance of success.
You can also rest assured that you are entering the property industry at a postive time - it is believed that the proportion of households privately renting is set to rise 29% by 2020.
Furthermore, the tradition of getting married and moving into a purchased home to raise children is becoming a thing of the past as new research from flatsharing marketplace Weroom.com reveals that a quarter of British renters are getting married (23%) and having children (25%) whilst living in rented properties rather than setting up their own homes.
The findings show how modern lifetime milestones experiences and expectations are dramatically different to those a generation ago.
The cumulative effects of the acute housing shortage in the UK, the rising cost of living, the tightening of mortgage lending, and societal change means that over a third (35%) of young Brits aged 25-34 years old now expect to, or have, become a parent whilst renting.
As renting becomes "the norm" in the U.K., and regulation becomes more onerous for landlords, lettings agents are going to play an increasingly important role.
